As 2025 draws to a close, we at the Global Network of People Living with HIV (GNP+) pause to reflect on a year that tested our resilience like many others in Global health and social development. Yet these profound challenges ignited the power of our community action, proving once again that local for global PLHIV led mobilizing and advocacy is our greatest strength.
With over 40.8 million people living with HIV worldwide, this year brought unprecedented challenges. Sharp funding cuts, particularly to PEPFAR and other international aid forced closures, staff losses, and disruptions to essential HIV programs. These shifts exposed the fragility of vertical HIV responses and marked a profound period of transition as services move toward integration into primary health care and community systems.
Yet, in the face of these hardships, the leadership of PLHIV communities shone brighter than ever. National PLHIV networks across the globe stepped forward with courage and determination, collaborating closely with their national governments to secure continued access to treatment, advocate for sustainable responses, and shape the adaptations needed for integrated services. Your grounded, visible and impactful leadership has been the cornerstone of our PLHIV movement’s strength, ensuring that the voices and needs of people living with HIV remain central during this time of change. THANK YOU!
At GNP+, we have worked tirelessly alongside you to convene, mobilize and secure our visibility and leadership across the year. We reflect in celebration hosting 17 virtual PLHIV convenings, Hybrid global and regional PLHIV Leadership Summits in Nairobi, Thailand and Tunisia, and kept PLHIV conversations vibrant in the “PLHIV Leaders Now” podcast series. Together with the national PLHIV networks in Rwanda and Ghana, we hosted the Advanced HIV Disease AHD workshop at IAS 2025, and the PLHIV led Integration Summit at ICASA 2025.
This year, GNP+ launched our first World AIDS Day report, PLHIV Minimum Requirements for Integrated HIV Services, alongside the companion The PLHIV Voices on HIV Services Integration: case studies from six countries. These resources, informed by nearly 1,900 PLHIV respondents, amplify community insights and call for PLHIV person centered, stigma free care as integration advances.
None of this would have been possible without the trust you have placed in GNP+ and the strong collaboration we have shared throughout the year. To our donors, partners, consultants and allies: thank you for standing with us and enabling us to provide financial and technical support to national networks and community organizations
